About Burmester & Vogel

Burmester & Vogel builds software for the commercial side of shipping. We started with demurrage and laytime management, two of the most complex processes in maritime logistics, and have since expanded into new product lines, including vessel valuation and a growing suite of intelligent tools for the wider supply chain.

Today we serve over 150 leading companies worldwide and manage over one billion tons of cargo annually. We are growing quickly, and each new hire shapes what we launch next.

Position Description

Burmester & Vogel is seeking a Product Manager to own the direction of our Voyage Management System (VMS). You will take over day-to-day product ownership from our executive team and set the direction for the product. You will turn customer and market needs into clear priorities, work daily with engineering in an Agile environment, and be accountable for what ships and whether it works for users.

Responsibilities

  • Own the roadmap and backlog for the VMS, and keep priorities tied to business goals
  • Run discovery with charterers, shipowners, and operators: interviews, workflow observation, and usage data
  • Write clear requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria
  • Lead story planning with engineering and design, and take part in daily standups
  • Make scope, sequencing, and trade-off decisions, and explain them to stakeholders
  • Define success metrics for releases and report on outcomes
  • Coordinate releases with engineering, sales, account management, and support
  • Keep product documentation and release notes current

Requirements

  • 3+ years of product management experience with B2B software, ideally enterprise or data products
  • A track record of shipping products with engineering teams in an Agile environment
  • Strong written communication, including requirements, specs, and stakeholder updates
  • Enough technical depth to discuss APIs, data models, and architecture trade-offs with engineers
  • Comfort using data (e.g., SQL, Excel, product analytics) to make decisions
  • Experience with backlog tools such as Linear

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business, Maritime Studies, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • A product management certification (e.g., Pragmatic Institute, CSPO) is a plus

Desired (Not Required)

  • Experience in shipping operations, chartering, or voyage management
  • Experience with AI-enabled products
  • Experience working with U.S. Public Sector customers (DHS or DoD)
  • DoD security clearance
